Family Adventure Snacks: Torus Coffee's Freeze-Dried Snack Journey

Hi there! I’m Sara-Jane — CEO of Torus Coffee Company, outdoor enthusiast, and snack tinkerer-in-chief. Welcome to The Orbit Report, where we share our wild (sometimes weird) journey of building a family-run snack company fueled by stars, dirt, and a lot of coffee.

The idea behind our freeze-dried snacks was born somewhere between a campfire and a tackle box. My husband and I were out with the kids, hiking through the forest, trying to pack light but still eat well. I wanted snacks that were fun, didn’t melt, didn’t squish, and still tasted amazing. So we got to experimenting.

Our first success? Bananas with cinnamon and sugar — now called Star-Dusted Banana Crunch. When we popped one fresh out of the freeze-dryer, we knew we had something worth sharing.

Since then, it’s been one cosmic ride. We’ve freeze-dried candy, fruits, and even entire apple slices — turning everyday favorites into interstellar fuel for outdoor life. Our mission is simple: make snacks that bring a little magic to the ordinary.
